Bruce McCullough: Measure 49 is a helpful compromise.
Bruce McCullough has seen a lot of changes in rural Clackamas County in his 60 years. He still lives on the land he grew up on, which his parents purchased in 1952. He bought the land from his folks, bought adjacent land from a neighbor and it now totals 150 acres. Most of the land is forested, but he also grows Christmas trees on a portion of his property.
He loves his place, but the growth Bruce has seen in rural Clackamas County concerns him.
Bruce did file a Measure 37 claim to build a house on the 35-acre parcel of his property. One house. Maybe for retirement.
His neighbor filed a claim to build a 10-house subdivision on 80 acres. Bruce worries about sprawl and increased traffic of this and other Measure 37 claims in Clackamas County. He’s also concerned that carving up farm and forestland into rural subdivisions eats away at natural resource land.
As a Measure 37 claimant, Bruce McCullough supports Measure 49 as a helpful compromise between the rights of all property owners and the rights of neighbors.
