Flaw 21: Claims endanger one of Oregon most treasured places: Wallowa Lake

Multiple claims near Wallowa Lake pose environmental and cultural threats to the area. The RY Timber Company (based in Montana) is seeking development of 1,600 acres into 160 parcels or $8 million in compensation. Such development has been previously restricted on the basis of cultural and archeological values. Another claim on 586 acres has drawn opposition from the Nez Perce tribe due to concerns about impacts on fish and groundwater resources. The tribe also contends that another claim by Steve Krieger on 60 acres threatens important archeological sites.
