Flaw 23: Measure 37 claims to erect massive electrical towers

Central Electric Cooperative, Inc. of Redmond has filed Measure 37 claims in both Deschutes and Crook County to avoid requirements to place power lines underground. Instead, the company is seeking land use waivers meant to protect neighbors’ property values and preserve scenic vistas in order to erect electrical towers up to 80 feet tall. The company CEO recently stated that the claims are “probably not what Measure 37 was intended to do.” The company has demanded over $240 million from the counties and state if the regulations are not waived.
