Davidson Industries Inc. has filed Measure 37 claims to convert 1,253 acres currently zoned for commercial farm and forest use east of Dunes City and Florence — including land along the Siuslaw River — into residential subdivisions. The development would come next to both the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Park and US Forest Service land. Intensive development in the Siuslaw estuary would run counter to numerous salmon recovery and habitat restoration projects underway since the 1990’s in the watershed.
